High Point, N.C. - Leather specialist Lazzaro Leather is moving to a new, much larger showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center for the October 17 to 22 High Point Market that will allow for better display of its rapidly expanding product line.

The company will exhibit in a 16,122-square foot showroom in the IHFC's Commerce wing, Space 1003. It had been showing in a 9,123-square-foot showroom in the Hamilton wing, also on the 10th floor.

"We're nearly doubling our space for October market to create more room for our fast-growing product categories as well as as the nearly $2 million worth of in-line product that we stock in our North Carolina warehouse," said Lauri Cryan, president of Lazzaro. "In our previous showroom, we didn't have room to show all of our best sellers. Now, customers will have a chance to see and touch a much broader range of our line before making a buying decision."

The new showroom is centrally located in a high-visibility spot with lots of traffic, making it easily accessible for retailers, Cryan added. The space is being completely redesigned for the October market with a creative layout organized by contemporary, casual and traditional lifestyles.

"Our new showroom design will be laid out in an artful way that highlights the fashion-forward nature of our line and the quality of our materials and craftsmanship," said Cryan. "We'll have more room to roam, and will use texture, color and other creative touches that engage buyers and bring the space to life."

At the October market, Lazzaro Leather plans to introduce a variety of new leather seating and occasional products as well as a revived dining chair and barstool program. The company also will showcase its leather handbag program, a new accessory line that generated strong interest at the spring High Point Market, said Cryan.

"Handbags are a great way for us to spotlight the quality of our leathers, and they offer retailers a hot new category of product that doesn't take up a lot of space," said Cryan. "We've already had a number of Top 100 retailers express interest in the program, along with several leading e-commerce sites."

In addition to exhibiting new goods, Lazzaro plans to devote a good portion of the new showroom space to its current range of best-selling upholstery and occasional furniture. Best known for its traditional goods, the company has recently expanded its offerings of transitional and contemporary designs, including modern and industrial-inspired pieces incorporating stainless steel and riveted aluminum. Key product categories include sofas, sectionals, accent and office chairs, steamer trunks, desks and bar units.

"We generate more than half of our revenue from product stocked in our High Point warehouse," said Cryan, who was promoted to president of Lazzaro in June. "Retailers throughout the country rely on us for speedy service on all our best sellers and we ship out 92 percent of our North Carolina-stocked goods within 48 hours of receiving an order."

In addition, Lazzaro Leather also offers a direct-container program for volume purchases. Lazzaro Leather is the exclusive distributor for the United States, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica of Guangdong Sunton Leather Goods, which has its own tannery and furniture factory in Shunde, China. Formerly an OEM supplier of leather upholstery to other manufacturers, Guangdong Sunton Leather Goods began its relationship with Lazzaro Leather in 2009 to sell and market the Lazzaro Leather (formerly Sunton Leather) brand.

Originally based in Mebane, N.C., Lazzaro moved to a 70,000-square-foot office and warehouse facility in High Point in 2011. The company currently services a mix of Top 100 retailers, medium and smaller independents and e-commerce sites, and is expanding its activity with a new channel of distribution - interior designers.

"The biggest challenge other leather lines face is whether they have products in stock and ready to ship," said Cryan. "That's never a problem for us, because we have the ability to respond to demand as soon as it emerges. Retailers know they can count on us to send them the merchandise they need quickly and efficiently."

Cryan added that, as part of a large, vertically integrated company, Lazzaro also is able to offer very sharp prices. "We provide a quality, luxury-type product at bargain pricing," she said.

About Lazzaro Leather

Lazzaro Leather is the exclusive distributor for the United States, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica of Guangdong Sunton Leather Goods, a 50-year-old leather tannery and quality furniture manufacturer located in Shunde, China. The frames of Lazzaro's upholstered furniture and other furnishings are constructed of kiln-dried birch hardwood indigenous to the Shunde area that is virtually knot free and bolted for stability. Lazzaro uses only 100 percent U.S. cowhide in its tannery - covers that are known for being larger and having fewer defects. Lazzaro offers solid-color leathers with a slight waxy hand for its more contemporary designs as well as vintage antiqued leather finishes for more traditional models. Since the company tans its own hides, it is able to monitor the quality in all facets of the tanning process to ensure consistency as well as quality finishes.
